Audio-Visio Divina
Audio-Visio Divina is a way of traditioning "Lectio Divina" by using picture, audio, and/or music.
Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina is Latin for divine reading, spiritual reading, or "holy reading," and represents a method of prayer and scriptural reading intended to promote communion with God and to provide special spiritual insights. It is a way of praying with Scripture that calls one to study, ponder, listen and, finally, pray from God's Word.
Watch the Audio-Visio Divina presentation for each of the following steps:
Lectio (Listening for God’s Address)
See or Listen for a word, sound, feeling, or image that shimmers, beckons, addresses you, unnerves you, disturbs you, stirs you, seems especially ripe with meaning.
Meditatio (Receiving God’s Address)
Ruminate on the word, sound, feeling, or image, allow it to interact with the feelings, images, symbols that come to you during this time. Invite the word, sound, or image to unfold in your imagination and enter even more deeply into your heart.
Oratio (Responding to God’s Address)
What is the invitation present in the unfolding of sounds, images, memories, and feelings for you today? How is God speaking to your life in this moment through this music? Address your response to God in whatever way seems appropriate.
Contemplatio (Contemplative Silence, Resting in God’s Presence)
A time for simply resting in God, releasing the sounds, images, memories, and feelings and offering gratitude for God’s presence in this time of prayer.
Shepherd Me, O God - Psalm 23
As Audio-Visio Divina is a modern way of traditioning Lectio Divina, I purposely chose to use modern images as a way to pray with this style of prayer since these are the ordinary images as opposed to an icon or other sacred images in creating this audio-visio divina presentation as I tend to truly believe the Ignatian phrase of "Finding God In All Things."
Stations of the Cross
For this second Audio-Visio Divina presentation, I thought I would choose the images of the Stations of the Cross as a way to pray using this style of prayer. I hope you enjoy this second way of praying using Audio-Visio Divina.
For the third Audio-Visio Divina presentation, I thought I would choose the Lord's Prayer as a way to pray using this style of prayer. I hope you enjoy this second way of praying using Audio-Visio Divina. Click on the Lord' Prayer link to view this prayerful presentation.
